Darryl started his rugby career in 1985 at the age of 15 after finding one of the few high school teams on the East Coast, West End RFC, located in the suburbs of Washington, D.C. He served as Captain for his junior and senior years and led West End to the East Coast HS Championship in 1987.
Darryl played for James Madison University Rugby as well as served as the coach of their Women’s Club throughout his undergraduate education. Darryl moved frequently for work and played with numerous senior Men’s teams and in tournaments throughout the United States. He was affiliated for 7 years as a player/coach for Virginia Rugby Football Club in Charlottesville, VA, and became Head Coach of the club in 2016.
Upon moving to the DC area, he immediately sought out the finest club he could find in the region—the Washington Irish. Darryl had served as an assistant coach since 2018 focusing on defense and disrupting the flow of the opposing attack line.
In addition to his 36 years in the rugby world, Darryl is a consultant to corporations on team development and performance, a certified Master Fitness Trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine (NASM), and the author of the book, Cultivating Excellence: the Art, Science, & Grit of High Performance in Business.
